November's Photographer of the Month - Katie Crawshaw
What can you tell us about your winning entry into our photography competition?
My winning entry was taken in Blackpool on a lovely August evening this year, as we were walking along the beach. As the sun was setting I had my camera with me, so I thought to take this lovely photo of my husband and son as they went for a little paddle. It was a very lovely moment.
How did you get into photography?
When my 1st daughter was born 2006 I got a new camera. I wanted to take loads of photos, as they are not babies for long. However, me then not knowing much about photography, I didn’t realise that it was not a decent camera. So I ended up researching and got a better one. The more I learnt the more I wanted to learn. Before I had my children I’d never really used a camera and never really had one, so having my children has brought all the new adventures of photography and Photoshop into my life. I would never feel me without a camera now. Its apart of me, like my children are. It was the start of my life.
What do you enjoy about photography?
Aside from taking photos of my children, I enjoy macro photography the most. I like how you can get so much of the details of the little things in the world. I have taken a lot of photos of the mushrooms that I see in the wild. I have taken photos of my children and edited the photos so the children have been sat on the mushrooms, as I love the fantasy side of any kind of art. I also found a whole new interest in Photoshop. I am a naturally arty person have always been fascinated by all different kinds of art. Since having my children I have gained an AS level qualification in Fine Art. I have also qualified with distinction in level 1 in joinery and I am currently on level 2 Joinery. So, pretty much everything I have done is relating to art in some way or another.
What are your plans for the future?
I have a lot of ambition for this to be more than just my life’s hobby. I am very eager, as what I have learnt so far is through Google, Youtube and hours and hours of online tutorials. I would love to work in a studio as a photographer and editor but I think that I still have a lot to learn.
What do you plan to do with your framing voucher?
I have already received my wonderful metal gun frames which have taken pride place of my living room, full of photos of my family. Thank you very much.
