A Sprinkle of Christmas - Decoration Ideas

A Sprinkle of Christmas - Decoration Ideas

Is it just us or is Christmas starting a bit earlier this year? Baubles, tinsel, trees and stockings are appearing left right and centre in the shops ready for you to begin decorating your home. If youre looking for some new ideas on how to incorporate the festive feel around the house have a browse of some of our favourites:

Candles

A great 3 in 1 Christmas feature for your home, candles offer festive fragrance, are ornamental, and create a wonderful comforting winter glow for your home.

Scents

Not just for decorating; things such as pine needles will help to add a fresh Christmas aroma to your home. Likewise placing rolls of cinnamon, and dried orange/ DIY potpourri around your home are great ways to bring the warm fragrance of winter nights to your rooms.

Ornaments

You can’t go wrong with the classics; ornaments you bring out time and time again each year. Alternate where you place them each year to keep things varied. These are perfect for filling the nooks and crannies of your home where you wants some decoration but can’t fit something large.

Tip: Got a bookshelf? Adorning the shelves with your favourite festive ornaments is a great idea for decorating a room in a more subtle way.

Bits and Bobs

Spotted plenty of Christmas bits and bobs around the shops but not convinced enough to buy any of them? Don’t be afraid! Bits and bobs are highly underrated as decorations; ribbons, old baubles, felt toys, branches, and string, there’s plenty of DIY Christmas decorations out there for you to create, perfect for making your home more unique and the decorations that bit more special.

Tip: Get the little ones involved! If you’ve picked yourself up a mix of things, get your children involved in creating their very own decoration for the tree or around your home. This is a great family activity and making one every year means you always have a special keepsake to mark the year.

Tip no 2: Tree looking a bit bare? Ribbons are a great way to fill out branches, and with so many colours and patterns available you’re sure to find one that meets the look you’re going for.

Guide visitors through your home with festive trimmings. The stairs is a great place to hang and adorn with garlands, baubles and ribbons for a elegant finish. If you have children then the banisters can also make the perfect place to hang their stockings.

Fireplace

The focal point of many a Christmas scene, a fireplace makes the perfect centerpiece of your festive grotto. Whether it’s garlands on the mantelpiece, stockings hanging around the fire or your favourite Christmas characters sat either side, there are plenty of ways to embellish this area of your home.

Top tip: Intersperse little fairy lights amongst your mantelpiece foliage to create a more magical feel.

Colour Schemes

It’s a great idea to pick a colour scheme/palette if you are starting from scratch with your Christmas decorations, or would like to give your current collection an overhaul. In particular with your tree too many colours going on can make things appear crowded, so we’d recommend sticking to one scheme, here are our two favourites:

Winter Whites and Glamourous Gold
Bring the aura of snowfall to your home with this theme; think all things frosted. The great thing about this colour scheme is that it brings a fresh and contemporary feel to a traditional time of year without losing the spirit of Noel. If you have a smaller home these are great colours to help avoid a claustrophobic feel, and the shimmers of gold offer a dash of elegance to the style.
