Alan Woollett - Featured Artist
Having won our Art and Drawing Competition back in March 2017 with his entry ‘Flamingo Study’, we asked Alan Woollett to give us some insight into his artistic world as our featured artist interview…
TELL US ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY INTO ART …
My journey into art began as a child I guess, I have always drawn and later learned to paint with the help of a local artist, then I attended art college to study graphic design.
WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR ART STYLE?
I began drawing birds as I had always been interested in them since childhood so it seemed a good subject to start with! My current drawing style tries to incorporate the techniques I learned whilst using watercolor. Light layers of pencil, and letting the paper become part of the highlights; it’s a realistic style, but not hyper-realistic.
TELL US ABOUT SOME OF YOUR ARTISTIC PIECES…
My artistic pieces these days are virtually all bird subjects. I use coloured pencils and graphite, varying between the two mediums; sometimes a subject screams colour, others work better in black and white.
Mostly I just try and convey the beauty of birds, some obviously beautiful and some not so obviously beautiful until looked at a little closer!
WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS IN THE ART/PHOTOGRAPHY WORLD?
Future plans? Not really sure; I have recently completed my first book …Bird Art, published here in the UK by art book publishers Search Press. I have also run drawing workshops in the USA including a video tutorial available from Craftsy.com
At the moment I don’t have a website but my art can be seen on Facebook at Alan Woollett Art… Click Here to Visit
