Photographer of the Month- Barry Jones
Barry’s winning Photograph
Barry Jones was the winner of our March photography competition, ‘Celebrations’. His winning photo was taken at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, London during Christmas.The idea behind Barry’s photo was to use a fisheye lens to achieve a photo featuring the whole scene within the frame. A fisheye lens is an ultra wide-angle lens that produces visual distortion which is intended to make a wide panoramic image. To show the movement of the wheel, Barry used a slow shutter speed which also achieved the appearance of movement from people in the area.
How Barry got into Photography
Around 12 years ago Barry moved to the countryside from Dagenham, Essex and whilst walking his dog he started to appreciate the wildlife around him. This gave Barry the urge to photograph wildlife we often take for granted.
This led to Barry buying himself a Fuji bridge camera, and eventually getting into digiscoping.
(Digiscoping is an activity using a digital camera coupled with an optical telescope. Using a point and shoot digital camera photos are captured through a spotting scope which helps to achieve prime focus photography.)
Today Barry uses a DSLR Camera and has now moved onto to all parts of photography, including landscapes, seascapes and of course wildlife.
Why Barry got into Photography
Barry see’s photography as a release from the stresses of day to day life.
‘It draws you into the scene that you are trying to capture and whatever is around you does not matter, because at that time you are a part of that scene you are trying to capture.’
Barry receives a sense of achievement when sharing his photos with others. To Barry, It matters what others think of his photography, especially when people show their appreciation of a photo he’s taken of something he loves.
Barry’s Future Plans
Barry is currently not working in photography, but it’s something he would like to do in the future. However due to commitments this is not currently possible. For the mean time, photography is still a hobby that he loves and will continue to produce great photos for others to enjoy.
Barry wants to use the vouchers he has won from Picture Frames Express for a local exhibition to show off his work to others.
