Introduce Yourself

I’m Aaron Golden. I’m a wedding and live music photographer, based in the southwest of England in the city of Exeter.

I’m always looking for new creative projects and recently I’ve started trying food photography.

How did you get into Photography?

I first picked up a DSLR camera when I started studying a film course at university. The camera was mainly used for filming projects for my course at the time and I thought I would only use it for photography occasionally, but I soon realised I enjoyed photography just as much. I started out with the Canon 550D before moving to the 5D Mark iii and started to take photos as often as I could, often on my way to and from work. Night shifts would be brilliant for this as I could get some night shots on my way to work and then some shots in the morning on the way back home, usually before any gloomy weather arrived.

‘What can you tell us about your entry ‘Glorious pancakes’ into our ‘Food Glorious Food competition?’

It was my first proper attempt at food photography and I was surprised by the results. It definitely helped that the food itself was amazing! A friend recommended entering the competition so I gave it a shot.

Do you have any particular style of photography you specialise in?

At the moment I’m focusing on weddings and creative portraits.

What do you enjoy about photography?

It offers a new perspective, a different way of looking at everyday things.

Tell us about one of your projects/your work

At the moment I’m working on a levitation series of photographs, using a technique inspired by a Peter McKinnon Youtube tutorial.

It’s incredibly simple to get started with and there are always new opportunities to shoot with different things in different ways.

If you could offer one piece of advice to aspiring photographers what would it be?

Keep taking photos every day and think about how the viewpoint of a photo can change it’s aesthetics, for instance taking photos closer to the floor can lend an interesting perspective to photos.

Where can we see your work?

My work’s on various platforms at the moment, the main ones are:
(Instagram is more creatively focused, the website is mainly for weddings at the moment).

Any plans for the rest of the year?

I’ve got a lot of plans for the rest of this year with wedding bookings, the levitation photography series and hopefully, I’ll be putting more time into creative portraiture.

I’m learning as much as I can about new techniques at the moment, neon portraits and using prisms to create reflections is something that I will be incorporating into my portrait photography soon. One of the portraiture series I have planned at the moment is to create a series featuring musicians, using light painting and possibly levitation techniques with the instruments as well.

I’m also starting a new Youtube channel this year so keep an eye out for that!
